My Favorite Movies of 2025
Authentic
I watched more movies in 2025 than any other year of my life, so I have a lot of stuff to discuss. Writing about movies is obviously cringe, but I had a blast watching all of these and figured I'd write this so I could remember what I thought of them in the future. Please don't hate me.
Oh! And I wrote all of this by hand. No AI whatsoever. I use AI to write everything, but not this! So take that as you will. In an age where any and everyone can and should write perfectly, here's something from brittle little fingers that might still be kinda rough around the edges.

The Great Charli XCX War of 2025
Most things in my life are inspired by Charli XCX, even watching movies.
Charli XCX's Letterboxd got leaked last year, and the greatest artist of this generation is a bonafide cinephile. Seeing all of the badass movies she was watching inspired me at the end of 2024 to watch more films.
When 2025 rolled around, I thought it would be a fun game to see if I could keep up with her in movies watched. At some points throughout the year, I was ahead, which made me feel cool and accomplished. But around Thanksgiving, she pulled ahead, and I never caught up. Either way, it was a blast and made this year fun.
Year in Numbers
Not For Me
I know how hard it is to make movies and how much it sucks to hear people hate your work. All movies are great. Who gives a shit what I think? If you do, though, I'd recommend watching something else before these. I'm including this list at the top so you can get a sense of my taste. If you loved any of these and are perplexed by my opinion, feel free to ignore everything else I say.
And yes, I am incredibly aware some of these are the most universally beloved movies of 2025. Hell, some are by my favorite filmmakers of all time. None are bad. They just weren't for me.
I swear to God, Nick Stahl died. He's had known issues, but I truly thought the man was dead. He's not a household name, so it's kind of weird that I had an accessible Nick Stahl file in my head, and in it was a big red label marked "Deceased." So when I saw What You Wish For and learned he was alive and well, it was a joyous, if not very weird, experience. A true celebration of life! I'm so happy Nick Stahl is alive! I wish I liked the movie more.
I watched Watcher and The Watchers in one watch. That's right! I watched both of these movies back to back, which is impressive because watching either of them was a serious chore for me.
Now that I've alienated myself, let's get on with the show!
Non-2025 Films I Watched This Year
I hate agro shit and thought all the yelling would be a bummer, so I avoided Whiplash for years. Turns out, this all-time classic is pretty good! If you've been avoiding it for the same reason, dip your toe in; the water is fine.
When Moonlight came out, it was a year I didn't give a shit about Oscar movies, but holy smokes, they got it right with this one.
Past Lives is the best love story since when? The Notebook?
Also, I finally listened to the Letterboxd kids and just loved the hell out of First Reformed. It's one of the few movies that is better than the memes.
After watching most of Sean's movies last year (Anora, Red Rocket, The Florida Project, Tangerine, and Starlet), I finished up the filmography with Prince of Broadway and Take Out. It's just nuts how good he was at doing his thing right out of the gate.
Older Classics
I'm trying to watch more Criterion movies, so I'm starting with films that are easy sells for me, and ho boy, Eyes Without a Face hit the mark. It's everything I want in a good movie, and it was made in 1960. I love it when you watch 50+ year old movies and realize artists were just as fucked up then as we are now.
The Killing is sick. It's old as shit, and after you tighten your 1950s movie goggles, holy cow, it rules. It was a huge inspiration for classics like Heat and The Dark Knight and still holds up incredibly well. I thought "This would make for a great remake" but then I realized most bank robbery movies are just remixes on this one already.
I finally watched Possession, La Haine, and Thief. Turns out they are bonafide, all-time, blue-chip classics for a reason. If you look at the watch dates you'll see that was a killer week.
Bangers From the 90s
Juice is like Boys N the Hood or Menace II Society, but a horror movie where "the juice" makes you a killer. I’ve seen this movie poster my entire life, and this heater was just sitting there all that time when I could’ve been watching it. Holy god, me and all my friends would have eaten this shit up in high school so hard when Transplants and G-Unit put out their first records.
I picked up that Charli XCX was really into The Addiction, so I obviously watched it that day, and it was wild to see how much of the BRAT era came directly from this movie, which says a lot about how ahead of its time The Addiction is and how much of a visionary Abel Ferrara is. And the soundtrack is tougher than shit.
And holy cow, if you’re looking for a sweaty, tense, racial tension, cop, scary serial killer, crime thriller, check out One False Move. Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton, and everyone else are great. But it has a very modern vibe. It’s aged really well considering how incendiary it is.
Dakota Johnson Makes Good Movies
Daddio is just a sweet little warm blanket. It’s worth knowing before watching that nothing bad happens, and it’s just two people talking. This isn’t a spoiler, especially if you have seen One Battle After Another. I kept thinking something bad would happen but hoped it was just a sweet little warm blanket. I can’t wait to watch it again knowing it’s not out to get ya.
Cha Cha Real Smooth is a charming little movie that's written, directed, and stars one of my new favorite creative people, Cooper Raiff. He’s got a cool thing going on, and this movie is clearly just one of a soon-to-be large pile of classics.
Beloved Rewatches
I rewatched Frances Ha for my Top 100 Project to confirm it’s one of my all-time favorites. Not only is it confirmed, but I’m writing this to say I think this is the best "Millennial movie" of all time.
I also watched Breakdown for my Top 100 Project and can confirm it’s a perfect film. It’s not the best movie ever made or anything, but there is no frame of this movie that needs to be touched. Just a perfect little diamond.
Recent Movies I Enjoyed
Omg, I love Red Rooms so much. I wrote a song about it. I annoyed all of my friends and family for weeks. No one watched it because it’s in French, and the opening shot is like 15 minutes long, which makes it look like the most boring movie ever. But holy smokes, I just need to watch it once more and then figure out where to put it in my Top 100. The (not very great) marketing for this movie said "OUT FINCHER’S FINCHER," but this movie is way more like a modern, cyber Taxi Driver, except instead of a crazy loser racist incel, it’s a crazy hot supermodel hacker girl, which is, you know, better.
The Quiet Place movies are not for me. The first one is fine, but I kind of don’t like John K and the whole shebang. So I skipped A Quiet Place: Day One when it came out. But I love Pig and Lupita Nyong'o, so I finally gave it a shot and was blown away by how touching and human this movie is. Considering just how god-awful and stupid a "Quiet Place Spinoff" should have been, this movie is a miracle.
I'm a huge fan of Sara and her sister Tegan, but bruh, Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara is wild! You don’t need to know anything about them or their music to enjoy it. It’s almost the perfect sequel to the OG Catfish. It’s worth watching just for the Myspace haircuts . . . which . . . wow.
I love September 5 and over time it might creep into my Top 100. The subject matter is super heavy, but the movie is exhilarating and even a little bit fun. I’ve been a part of a lot of live productions and documentary projects, and this movie perfectly captures that spirit of "the show must go on!" Like an insane production, it feels like a heist more than a biographical drama about horrible events.
Reality isn't the most exhilarating or exciting movie. The whole gimmick is that it is a real-time depiction of Reality Winner catching a case, and it’s literally a word-for-word retelling of the actual audio transcripts. Like, they play the audio recordings for a few seconds a couple of times to remind you the actors are basically miming the real events, which to me was really compelling. It’s funny that Sydney Sweeney is considered this "right-wing" figure now when she portrayed Reality Winner, lol.
Zac Efron can never catch a break, man. What else does this guy have to do to get any credit? If you like soul-crushing movies that will devastate you, buckle up! It is worth noting The Iron Claw is the only movie ever made about white people where the true story was so sad they changed the movie's story to make it less sad because the true story was too sad. My God. Anyway, fun movie! Recommend!
Holy shit, I forget about MadS until I was making this list! OMG, I’m gonna watch it again tomorrow! The whole thing is done in one shot, er, that's what the filmmaker claims. But I’m not gonna lie, watching it, there were never any obvious or even seemingly obvious cut points. Who gives a shit? The movie absolutely rocks, and the gimmick is amazing. MadS!
Movies like They Cloned Tyrone are why the good Lord invented cinema. The less you know, the better, but if you really need to be sold: Cabin in the Woods but gang movies instead of horror. It rules.
My Favorite 25 Movies of 2025
Oh, Hi!
Director: Sophie Brooks
Cast: Molly Gordon, Logan Lerman, Geraldine Viswanathan, John Reynolds, David Cross
Genre: Romance/Comedy/Thriller | Length: 1h 35m
Watched: July 26, 2025
Summary: Iris and Isaac's first weekend away as a couple is going so well — until Isaac mentions he didn’t know they were a couple. Convinced she's met her perfect guy and that he's just confused, Iris goes to increasingly ridiculous and irrational lengths to prove to Isaac that they are meant to be together.
My Thoughts: My girl Molly finally got a chance to showcase how killer she is. Also, I made a lot of money from this movie in Hollywood Stocker.
Eddington
Director: Ari Aster
Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Deirdre O'Connell, Emma Stone, Micheal Ward, Pedro Pascal
Genre: Western/Comedy/Crime | Length: 2h 28m
Watched: December 03, 2025
Summary: In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbors are pitted against neighbors in Eddington, New Mexico.
My Thoughts: Fuck it. I’m putting this on the list because of all the movies I saw this year, I think about this one the most. I didn’t like a lot of it, but I also liked a lot of it. I hated some of it while I absolutely loved other parts, which made me question what I didn’t like about it and vice versa.
I don’t think this movie is perfect or nails what it sets out to do. But goddamn, it gets as close as anyone has gotten trying to do this sort of thing.
Thunderbolts*
Director: Jake Schreier
Cast: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour
Genre: Action/Science Fiction/Adventure | Length: 2h 7m
Watched: August 28, 2025
Summary: After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, seven disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.
My Thoughts: I love Marvel movies. I’ve seen all of them and was genuinely excited for this. I’m a dork enough to know this was getting built up over numerous shitty TV shows and mediocre movies during Phase 8 or whatever of the MCU. But then it comes out, and it’s awesome and everything I hoped it would be just when people couldn’t hate Marvel any more than they already do. Bittersweet.
Warfare
Directors: Ray Mendoza & Alex Garland
Cast: D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett
Genre: War/Action | Length: 1h 35m
Watched: June 04, 2025
Summary: A platoon of Navy SEALs embarks on a dangerous mission in Ramadi, Iraq, with the chaos and brotherhood of war retold through their memories of the event.
My Thoughts: I’m a simple 40-year-old man. I see the most accurate portrayal of modern warfare to date and I watch. This movie's gimmick is that every scene was corroborated by at least two of the real-life people who were actually there. And when the final sequence cuts to black, it’s a perfectly devastating depiction of how useless and stupid the entire "mission" was.
You're never going to believe this, but war is bad.
Bring Her Back
Directors: Danny Philippou & Michael Philippou
Cast: Billy Barratt, Sally Hawkins, Mischa Heywood, Jonah Wren Phillips, Stephen Phillips
Genre: Horror | Length: 1h 44m
Watched: August 09, 2025
Summary: Following the death of their father, a brother and sister are sent to live with a foster mother, only to learn that she is hiding a terrifying secret.
My Thoughts: This movie is super grim and a real bummer, especially considering how kick-ass and fun Talk To Me was. But as someone who liked making horror movies that were kind of sad, I thought this sucker was great. I loved all of these characters and felt many of the scenes were terribly unsettling and disturbing. To me, the whole thing was effective and moving. I hope these dudes make 20 more movies.
The Map That Leads to You
Director: Lasse Hallström
Cast: Madelyn Cline, KJ Apa, Sofia Wylie, Madison Thompson, Orlando Norman
Genre: Romance/Drama | Length: 1h 36m
Watched: August 31, 2025
Summary: Heather is a young woman traveling Europe with friends before starting her perfectly planned life. A chance meeting with Jack sparks an unexpected romance that leads to deep emotional discovery. As secrets and life choices test their bond, her path changes forever.
My Thoughts: I love a good ol' fashioned chick flick, and I love Madelyne Cline. I like it when it feels like the characters actually like each other. This isn’t some Criterion Collection classic, but I’ll rewatch it happily.
Caught Stealing and Eenie Meanie are two kick-ass crime thrillers, but both get a little too melodramatic to be considered great. But they're fun enough and live up to their respective premises: "Samara Weaving as a getaway driver" and "Austin Butler is hot."
Roofman
Director: Derek Cianfrance
Cast: Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple
Genre: Crime/Comedy/Drama | Length: 2h 6m
Watched: November 18, 2025
Summary: A former Army Ranger and struggling father turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname 'Roofman'. After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in.
My Thoughts: I like Derek Cianfrance and his mix of crime thrillers and tragedy. And obviously, Channing Tatum is an idol of mine and he's going for it here.
I was also blown away by how much of this true story was actually based on a true story. It’s 30 minutes too long and falls short of being great, but it's worth a watch if just for the absolutely banger oner when Channing enters the store for the first time.
If I Had Legs I'd Kick You
Director: Mary Bronstein
Cast: Rose Byrne, Conan O'Brien, A$AP Rocky, Danielle Macdonald, Delaney Quinn
Genre: Drama/Thriller | Length: 1h 53m
Watched: November 19, 2025
Summary: With her life crashing down around her, Linda attempts to navigate her child's mysterious illness, her absent husband, a missing person, and an increasingly hostile relationship with her therapist.
My Thoughts: This might be one of the worst movies you could watch on a Friday night with a bucket of popcorn and all of your friends. And when it ended, I kind of shrugged and felt nothing.
But holy fucking hell, if you want to know what "good sound design" is—here it be!
Rose Byrne finally got her showcase, but Conan and A$AP are equally impressive.
But real talk, I kind of grew up just like the kid in this movie, and it was terribly realistic and brought back a lot of dark memories for me. More importantly, this was the first time I got a real sense of what my mom went through taking care of me, so that’s why it’s on this list. Cinema, bruh.
HIM
Director: Justin Tipping
Cast: Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers, Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies
Genre: Horror/Mystery | Length: 1h 36m
Watched: November 26, 2025
Summary: After suffering a potentially career-ending brain trauma, Cameron Cade receives a lifeline when his hero, legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar Isaiah White, offers to train Cam at Isaiah's isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife. But as Cam's training accelerates, Isaiah's charisma begins to curdle into something darker.
My Thoughts: I saw ~240 movies this year. Some of them were real stinkers, man. HIM is not one of them. I try to not let the zeitgeist influence my opinion of movies, but sometimes I disagree so hard with the consensus, it makes me like the movie more than it deserves. That is absolutely the case here.
But still, the performances across the board are dedicated, and the cinematography, production design, and editing are major league (pun intended). As a fan of it, there are a lot of things I wish they’d done differently, but mostly I just really enjoyed the ride.
Watch the trailer. If that seems intriguing—including all the weird Native American horror imagery and shit—then you’ll dig it.
M3GAN 2.0
Director: Gerard Johnstone
Cast: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez
Genre: Action/Science Fiction/Thriller | Length: 2h 0m
Watched: October 07, 2025
Summary: After the underlying tech for M3GAN is stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, M3GAN's creator Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal.
My Thoughts: Man, this shit is classic. I’m so stoked it bombed and made all this news for being terrible and blah blah blah. Holy shit, everything about this movie rocks.
They went all out on the Terminator 2: Judgment Day by way of Flash Gordon vibe. It is very obvious this film was designed to be a cult classic from day one, which is both admirable and awesome.
Real quick: Name a cult classic that was a major box office hit. Exactly. So because M3GAN 2.0 bombed, it can now fulfill its destiny.
Jason Blum went on The Town podcast and lamented about how horrible the whole experience was and how they failed. He should have said, "This was the plan all along, suckers!" It all just kind of proves Blumhouse had no idea what this was since day one. Oh well. It'll all work out in the end.
The only thing I regret is I didn’t buy one of those massive AMC popcorn bucket things. M3GAN forever.
She Rides Shotgun
Director: Nick Rowland
Cast: Taron Egerton, Ana Sophia Heger, Odessa A'zion, John Carroll Lynch, David Lyons
Genre: Action/Thriller/Crime | Length: 2h 0m
Watched: December 09, 2025
Summary: Newly released from prison and marked for death by unrelenting enemies, Nate must now protect his estranged 11-year-old daughter, Polly, at all costs. With scant resources and no one to trust, Nate and Polly forge a bond under fire as he shows her how to fight and survive—and she teaches him the true meaning of unconditional love.
My Thoughts: This is the movie Caught Stealing and Eenie Meanie wanted to be. The performance by Anna Sophia Heger is my favorite of the year. Not favorite child performance. My favorite overall. She’s gonna have a great career, and I can’t wait for this dude’s next movie.
Splitsville
Director: Michael Angelo Covino
Cast: Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, Michael Angelo Covino, Nicholas Braun
Genre: Comedy | Length: 1h 45m
Watched: September 24, 2025
Summary: After Ashley asks for a divorce, good-natured Carey runs to his friends, Julie and Paul, for support. He’s shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage, that is until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.
My Thoughts: This shit is wild. Splitsville was the most creative and unique film I saw all year. Watching it, I couldn’t tell what was actually happening or what was fantasy or if it all was happening or if none of it was happening. It was just really awesome and interesting.
Halfway through, I was like, who is this funny dude in this movie? And it turns out he also wrote and directed it! Neat!! This movie features the best extended fight scene since They Live and also my favorite joke of 2025 involving a kid on TV with MS and a bunch of dudes confusing that for the NLCS.
My first movie, EAT, would have never been distributed without the hard work of BoulderLight Pictures. Then they really worked their magic and got Rent-A-Pal an amazing theatrical release. So I’m very biased, but these guys genuinely made three of my favorite movies of the year.
I went into Companion completely blind, opening morning in IMAX, which significantly enhanced the experience. But lucky for me, I got to have that experience, so I don't know any different. I thought this was very clever and loved everyone in it.
Weapons is one of the big hits of the year, and there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. I know Zach Cregger is a wild dude, but I would bet a lot of money JD of BoulderLight is partly to thank for this movie's classic ending.
And Friendship was one of the big surprises for me. I love I Think You Should Leave as much as the next guy, but was apprehensive about a Tim Robinson feature film. It kind of sounded like a nightmare. Then I heard it was a BoulderLight joint and knew it was going to intentionally be a nightmare. It just absolutely worked for me. I love it.
Novocaine
Directors: Dan Berk & Robert Olsen
Cast: Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Jacob Batalon, Betty Gabriel
Genre: Action/Comedy/Thriller | Length: 1h 50m
Watched: May 14, 2025
Summary: When the girl of his dreams is kidnapped, everyman Nate turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.
My Thoughts: I’m a very, very big Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, and Ray Nicholson fan, so this was an easy sell. I also love how kind of sensitive this movie was to the real-world condition it depicts.
The Perfect Neighbor and Predators are two of the most haunting and devastating movies I have ever seen. Thankfully, these are just movies and not real life.
Lurker
Director: Alex Russell
Cast: Théodore Pellerin, Archie Madekwe, Havana Rose Liu, Sunny Suljic, Daniel Zolghadri
Genre: Drama/Thriller | Length: 1h 40m
Watched: December 22, 2025
Summary: When a twenty-something retail clerk meets a rising popstar, he takes the opportunity to edge his way into the in-crowd. But as the line between friend and fan blurs beyond recognition, access and proximity become a matter of life and death.
My Thoughts: This movie checks a lot of boxes for me. Nightcrawler and Ingrid Goes West for the Coachella crowd.
But my 20s were nearly identical to this movie. I mean ... without the creepy shit, obviously. I was fortunate enough to hang out with a lot of cool bands and rock stars, and HOLY SHIT, Lurker perfectly captures what it is like to hang out with young, somewhat famous, Los Angeles-based musicians.
Even more impressive, the music the pop star makes is genuinely good and believable, which brilliantly grounds the story in reality. The ending was just different enough to stick the landing and makes Lurker not another cookie-cutter indie but a star.
Twinless
Director: James Sweeney
Cast: Dylan O'Brien, James Sweeney, Aisling Franciosi, Lauren Graham, Chris Perfetti
Genre: Comedy/Drama | Length: 1h 40m
Watched: December 23, 2025
Summary: Two young men meet in a twin support group and form an unlikely friendship. Roman and Dennis both search for solace and an identity without their other halves and soon become inseparable outside the group.
My Thoughts: The goldmine of the year. Dylan O’Brien's dual role is truly noteworthy. And just like Splitsville, the funny and awesome guy I wasn't familiar with is the guy who wrote and directed it.
This isn’t just a captivating story that is best experienced knowing nothing more going in than the summary above, it’s fantastically crafted. There are some elite camera tricks and filmmaking moves that had me yelling out loud, "SHUT UP!!" I really did; it's embarrassing. But for real, he does a splitscreen trick that would make De Palma fucking drool. Twinless, bro.
Marty Supreme
Director: Josh Safdie
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Odessa A'zion, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin O'Leary, Abel Ferrara
Genre: Drama/Comedy | Length: 2h 30m
Watched: December 28, 2025
Summary: In 1950s New York, Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to Hell and back in pursuit of greatness.
My Thoughts: Good Time (SCHWAP!) and Uncut Gems (SCHWAP!) are two of my favorite movies ever, and if you didn’t know, those movies were directed by the Safdie Bros. And if you didn’t know, they had a pretty notable falling out, which I’m starting to believe happens to all filmmaking partnerships. So I was very anxious to see how their follow-ups would be. Unfortunately, The Smashing Machine was not for me, so I had a lot riding on Joshie boy.
Obviously, I really loved Marty Supreme; otherwise, it wouldn’t be on here. I just like these movies. Josh is like Sean Baker at this point, where he’s got "his thing," he sticks to it, and if you like it, the shit absolutely hits every time. And I loved Timmy in this movie. He gave Marty such a distinctly powerful walk/gate/stomp that it made all 137 pounds of TimTim look like a goddamn titan.
No Spoilers I was fascinated with how the movie would end considering how Josh's movies usually end vs. how the real Marty Supreme lived to be an old man. So it was quite a pleasant surprise when the ending made me genuinely emotional. I certainly didn’t expect that since the rest of the movie made me consider doing a line of blood pressure medication in the AMC bathroom. SCHWAP!
Sinners
Director: Ryan Coogler
Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku
Genre: Horror/Action/Thriller | Length: 2h 18m
Watched: April 18, 2025, July 05, 2025
Summary: Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.
My Thoughts: This is just in our lives now. We can just watch this shit whenever we want. Like, for as long as we live.
Besides, every single other second of this movie, one of my favorite things was all the world-class character-building. Have you ever seen another movie build lore like this? The Smoke Stack Twins fought in wars and killed Klan dudes and knocked off all of the gangs in Chicago. Every other line builds a better character than any movie Netflix Studios has ever made.
Another thing I love about Sinners is how much it felt like Coogler made a list of 50 awesome things to cram into a movie and somehow wrote a really great movie with that list. All Hail Sinners.
One Battle After Another
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall
Genre: Thriller/Crime/Action | Length: 2h 42m
Watched: September 26, 2025, December 26, 2025
Summary: Washed-up revolutionary Bob exists in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited, self-reliant daughter, Willa. When his evil nemesis resurfaces after 16 years and she goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her, father and daughter both battling the consequences of his past.
My Thoughts: I saw One Battle After Another in IMAX the morning it opened. I'm so thankful.
My favorite movies are the ones that make you feel like you got punched in the nose. Hearing "A few small beers…" for the first time, or seeing the selfie, or the hair combing, or Perfidia's eyelashes, or watching the nauseating final sequence (in IMAX!!!) . . . woo wee! . . . I knew the movie was a classic, but it just felt like I was watching The Wizard of Oz or The Getaway or something for the very first time. Like you’re watching some new band play at the Roxy called Guns N’ Roses.
It was so wild to see these iconic moments happen for the first time and know, in that moment, they were iconic and something I’ll think about forever and ever. I’m just so stoked this movie came out in my lifetime, man.
